Literature Text

The march of time goes on for evermore,
And all must lock in step to echoing drums.
All souls pass by from life to ancient lore.
Lo, for they go as quickly as they come.

These wraiths and spirits liv'd and breathed once
As persons of the world like you and I;
Be they the king, the serf, genius or dunce,
They share a common fact in that they die.

Those of the flesh must go forth to the ground,
But what of things of thought? where must they be?
Are they to fly and spiral 'round and 'round?
Or are they banished down to the sea?

Though life may fail and persons shall expire,
Their ideas burn on as eternal fire.
Wooo, Shakespeare!

I hardly ever write poetry, because I consider most modern forms of poetry to be either a jumble of random crap thrown onto a piece of paper, or just plain pretentious. However, I love a lot of poetry, and to get myself into the realm of it more (because it can be good to be exposed to things you don't like), I decided to write one of the most simple, un-pretentious, structured poems: a Shakespearean sonnet. The message in this is really clear, so if you don't get it, you're probably retarded.

I enjoyed this. Glad to see people aside from myself write and enjoy Shakespearean Sonnets.

Unpretentious indeed.
